Greetings from GEOS Victoria! This month we welcomed spring and with the flowers came students from all around the world to study in the most beautiful city in Canada. The Annual Victoria Flower Count results are in and this year we have at least 260,457,579 blooms to brag about in the City of Gardens. Temperatures are on the rise and so residents of Victoria are pulling their spring and summer wardrobe out of hibernation. Short-sleeved t-shirts and shorts are beginning to make an appearance on the streets with daily temperatures of around 11°C. Bring on the sunshine!

ESL Staff Instructor for GEOS Victoria

Please meet Jonathan Knight, one of our ESL instructors.
Jonathan has been a GEOS Victoria teacher for almost 3 years. Before coming to Canada, he traveled around much of Asia and spent some time teaching ESL in Korea and the United States. Our students really enjoy Jonathan’s lessons because he is hard working, energetic, kind, and patient. These are qualities that he brings to GEOS everyday. Furthermore, he always creates a positive learning environment for the students; a place where students can feel comfortable and motivated to learn English. He always tells his students, “it’s ok to make mistakes, you learn from your mistakes”. He feels that it is really important to have a classroom where students are not afraid to make mistakes. Additionally, he makes sure that the students have a central role in the classroom. They have to be willing to work together, help each other, and actively participate in each and every lesson so Jonathan makes sure to bring fun and engaging activities. One of the many things that Jonathan loves about teaching at GEOS Victoria is watching students from different cultures interacting in the classroom, and it is what makes this a great experience for the students as well.

ESL Intern Staff for GEOS Victoria

We would like to welcome an intern student whose name is Maho Sedoko. She is from Hiroshima, Japan she is exited about getting work experience at an ESL school.
Maho is very positive, a quick learner and always very helpful. We are so happy to have her in our office. Maho will be with us for 16 weeks and she has already improved her English a lot! We hope this experience will help her in the future.

Currently we have 10 Nationalities represented in the school among our 161 students. We extend a warm welcome to all the students studying English with us!

Student Testimonial for ESL Course at GEOS Victoria

There are some good reasons for choosing Canada and taking the classes at GEOS.
One of the reasons was that GEOS had really good reputations from the students who had previously graduated and continually offers the classes at a good price which is more reasonable than other schools.
According to my experienced life in Victoria, I am convinced to say that I love living in Victoria and everything I do. Because people are so kind that I feel being respected all the time. What would make me like staying here the most is that Victoria has a beautiful exotic view especially at the night time that might have helped feel relax and focus on my study.
I learned a lot from GEOS. I don’t say just English but also the way of speaking of the English-native speakers. A term ‘idiomatic English’, the real English being used is what I have been gladded to know about from GEOS as well as Grammars.
I was thankfully introduced my host family as well by GEOS who have always treated me so well I always feel like at home moreover, having been fully privileged to see the students from all over the world at GEOS was also positive experience.
I also had lot of fun at work and improved my English through the classes offered by GEOS. These things would’ve never happened to me, if I didn’t know and take the classes at GEOS. Needless to say that they (Staff & Teachers) are very warm-hearted, always trying to provide us with excellent information, many knowledge of an overall of Canada culture that we should know about during the time of the accomplishment of our desires here and also manage to inspire us to study hard so that we don’t want to settle the position we are in so we are somehow able to proceed with the work on English.
GEOS was thought to be such a good school and now it is the most successful one in Victoria through continued staff’s own efforts, therefore I don’t hesitate to recommend GEOS to those who want, and are needed to get a confidence in speaking English so that they adjust themselves to a new situation as easy as possible and speak with self-confidence at public later on. You will see why now there are so many students successful at their work place and college who belonged to GEOS.
I have one suggestion for future student. Being alone abroad, you could be in loneliness very often unless you have a strong achievement of being successful in language acquisition. Keep busy.
I was lucky, I met GEOS. Thank you all and I will never forget GEOS!

In addition to our fun-filled Friday activities, GEOS Victoria started March off with a bang by participating in the annual Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown campaign, in which students got the chance to visit many of Victoria’s most famous attractions at a fraction of the price.

This month’s activity calendar theme was fortune and fame. We sang like rock stars in Karaoke, spent an afternoon at Victoria’s Craigdarroch Castle and watched the regal Salmon Kings hockey team earn the big bucks in their win against The Utah Grizzlies. Our journey into the lifestyles of the rich and famous ended with an indoor rock climbing session where we climbed to the top.
